Series 74 of record group 59-4 consists of an 1858 supplement to map showing the location of the Flint and Pere Marquette Railway, originally collected by either the Michigan Geological Survey or the Michigan Lands Division. The map is by George T. Clark, chief engineer of the Railway. The map documents the area in and around Midland County, near Midland, Michigan.

The state legislature appointed Douglass Houghton the first state geologist (1837). The Flint & Pere Marquette Railroad Co. was incorporated on Jan. 21, 1857 for $5,500,000 in East Saginw (Mich.), for the purpose of owning/operating 170 miles of railroad track, from Flint (Mich.) to what is now Ludington (Mich.). On Feb. 15, 1859, the Co. consolidated with the Genesse & Oakland Railroad Co.
